General

Depending on the type of surgery (natural, semi-fantasy, or revision) and the condition of the nose, rhinoplasty usually takes between 2 and 4 hours. Bony noses or revision procedures may take a little longer.

The surgery itself is performed under anesthesia, so you feel no pain. After the operation there is usually no severe pain; a sense of congestion and pressure is more common and is controlled with prescribed painkillers.

The overall shape of the nose forms during the first few weeks, but the fully final result and the fading of minor swelling—especially at the tip—can take up to a year (sometimes longer for fleshy noses).

A fleshy nose has thicker skin and weaker cartilage, with a longer swelling period; a bony nose has thinner skin and the result usually shows sooner. A different surgical technique is chosen for each.

Choosing between a natural and a fantasy shape depends on your facial structure, skin thickness, and personal taste. During the consultation, with the help of a 3D scan, the most suitable shape for your face is recommended.

If cosmetic rhinoplasty is combined with correction of a deviated septum (septoplasty), it can improve breathing. Even in purely cosmetic surgery, the surgeon tries to preserve the airway.

Until the final result is reached, the nose shape gradually matures. Following the care instructions and avoiding impact during the first months helps stabilize the result. Minor changes during natural healing are normal.

In the closed technique there is no external incision, and in the open technique only a very small incision is made under the nose, which becomes almost invisible after healing.

Revision rhinoplasty (re-rhinoplasty) is for people who are not satisfied with the result of a previous surgery or have developed structural and breathing problems. It requires greater expertise and precision and is performed after a careful assessment.

Depending on the type and extent of the surgery, rhinoplasty can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The appropriate method is decided during the consultation based on your condition and the anesthesiologist's opinion.

Post-op care

The nasal cast or splint is usually removed after 7 days. Bruising and swelling around the eyes noticeably subside within 10 to 14 days, and most people can return to normal activities after about a week.

Most people can return to work after 7 to 10 days, once the cast is removed. For jobs involving heavy physical activity, allowing a little more time is recommended.

For about 4 to 6 weeks after surgery it is better to avoid resting heavy glasses on the nose so as not to put pressure on the healing bone. Using contact lenses or alternatives during this period is more suitable.

Light walking is allowed from the very first days, but heavy sports and activities with a risk of impact should usually be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks. It is also better to start swimming later.

Using cold compresses in the first days, keeping your head elevated while sleeping, drinking enough water, and eating a low-salt diet all help reduce swelling and bruising. These symptoms are normal and resolve gradually.

Before surgery

With a 3D scan you can see an approximate simulation of your nose shape after surgery on your own face before the operation. This greatly helps align your expectations with the surgeon's.

Rhinoplasty is usually recommended after facial bone growth is complete, i.e. around the age of 18 and above. There is no upper age limit, and a person's overall health matters more than their age.

It is recommended to stop blood-thinning medications and smoking two weeks beforehand, complete the necessary tests, and fast on the day of surgery. Detailed instructions are given during the consultation session.
